The Women Connect Challenge, launched in 2018, is USAID's global initiative to close the prevalent, and growing gender divide in access, usage and ownership of digital tools, across the world. Initiated in 2018, the Challenge has supported twenty six organizations across the global south, directly and through partnerships with Microsoft and Reliance Foundation.

As part of the learning from this Challenge, USAID has identified five proven strategies for development programs aimed at closing the gender digital divide and increasing women’s economic empowerment. These strategies have been documented and made public for the reference of practitioners.
